What Capitol Hill Homeowners Say About Our Area Rug Cleaning ?
GOOD Based on 47 reviews Posted on Google J DTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Will lose your itemsPosted on Google Bob PlotkinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We sent our valuable Persian rug to be cleaned after a fire, for smoke removal. The rug came back very badly stained and with frayed edges. We have no pets. Another company quoted $1500 to repair. Bergmann’s service was terrible and they charged us full price. Don’t use them!Posted on Google Winfield SwansonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They wash and iron my sheets, which makes you feel like a princess! And their pickup and delivery is predictablePosted on Google Deivis BallesterosTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Worst Customer Service. I have yet to receive a call back from any manager. Will try and reach the owner next! They separated my linens to include fuel charges for each one dry cleaned. We would have 4 exact same linens picked up. Then delivered a week later and charged separately to include a fuel charge on each linen. When I spoke to AP department, they said someone would get back to me.Posted on Google Kenneth MarksTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have used Bergmann’s since 1980 and they have always done an excellent job for me.Posted on Google George and Jodie (George and Jodie)Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have used Bergmann’s Cleaning for 20 years and presently have 11 rugs in my home that have been cleaned by the company so I am extremely disappointed and dissatisfied by my most recent experience with the company when I sent a rug to be cleaned only to have it ruined (the colors all bled). I allowed the company the opportunity to fix it, but the rug was returned in the same unacceptable condition almost two months later (the driver took the rug back to the store because it is useless). I had left messages for the manager/ president that went unreturned. When I finally was able to reach the manager/ president to request a $139 refund that I was charged in advance, he was defensive and basically blamed me saying it was pet stains ( I don’t have any pets and the rug damage is bleeding of colors not stains; what was once a cream rug is now a dull brown rust combination). He offered a partial refund saying he didn’t do work for free (even though I returned the useless rug). As a customer who has used this business without complaint for 20 years, I can tell you that this not the same Bergmann’s business that used to be professional and used to do a great job. I will never use them again. Beware.Posted on Google Kenneth E GazzolaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent servicePosted on Google Mary DearyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dropped off laundry oi May 31. Expscted return on June 7 Called to complain. Delivery was rescheduled for June 10 but arrived June 9. So what 's the problem? Theproblem is Bergmann's has deducted money twice from my account for this transaction.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rug Cleaning in Capitol Hill
Cleaning frequency depends on foot traffic, pets, children, indoor conditions and also the rug itself. Generally, high-traffic rugs end up needing professional attention more often than rugs that sit in low-use rooms, you know, where they get less action.
Yes, Bergmann’s Cleaning provides specialized care for different rug types, including Oriental and Persian rugs. The right approach usually hinges on fiber composition, construction details, dye stability, rug age, and current condition—everything kind of matters at once.
Professional treatment can help reduce many stains and odors, but the outcome depends on what caused the stain, how long it sat there and how far it has actually worked its way into the rug.
Antique and heirloom rugs need careful assessment, because their age plus overall condition can influence how they should be cleaned. A professional evaluation should happen before any treatment, not after, and definitely not by guesswork.
Bergmann’s Cleaning offers pickup and delivery as part of its service model. Customers can contact the team to confirm availability for their location and arrange their first pickup.
Yes. Because rug prices vary according to size, material, condition and cleaning requirements, customers should request an estimate for their particular rug rather than relying on a generic price.
Professional Rug Care by Bergmann’s Cleaning
Rugs bring warmth and character to a Capitol Hill home, but daily, foot traffic can leave behind dirt and dust, and yes stains and odors too, along with those tiny fine particles that you don’t really notice right away. Bergmann’s offers professional rug cleaning services in Capitol Hill, DC, with careful attention to the material, the construction, the current condition, and the cleaning needs of each rug not just “a rug.”
Founded in 1917, Bergmann’s Cleaning sort of has more than a century of experience serving the Washington, DC metro area—yeah including Virginia and Maryland too. The company blends experienced textile care with modern equipment, and then uses eco-friendly cleaning products, for better results overall.
Whether it’s an everyday area rug, a Persian rug, an Oriental rug, a specialty piece, or a family heirloom, the idea is kind of straightforward: clean the rug properly, and don’t treat every single rug the same way.
Professional Rug Cleaning in Capitol Hill for Different Types of Rugs
Rugs vary a lot in fiber, weave, dye, age and build. A cleaning method that works for one rug, might not work for another. Bergmann’s Cleaning assesses these differences before determining the appropriate care.
1. Area Rug Cleaning for Everyday Homes
Area rugs in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and entryways collect a surprising amount of soil, mainly because they get regular foot traffic. Getting them professionally cleaned helps lift embedded dirt and the kind of buildup that vacuuming alone can’t fully deal with.
This comes in handy when a rug looks worn, feels dull, starts giving off odors, or you can actually see those traffic pathways. The right cleaning can refresh the look while also supporting the rug’s fibers and overall condition.
2. Oriental & Persian Rug Cleaning
Oriental and Persian rugs may include natural fibers, complex motifs, and dyes that really call for careful handling. Their construction makes them different from ordinary household floor coverings.
Bergmann’s Cleaning approaches these rugs according to their individual characteristics rather than applying one standard cleaning process. This helps reduce unnecessary stress on delicate fibers, colors, and woven designs.
3. Specialty Rugs with Unique Cleaning Requirements
Specialty rugs might include unusual materials, handmade construction, decorative finishes, or just distinctive designs in general. Honestly these pieces deserve a bit more consideration before cleaning than your standard synthetic area rug.
Our team checks out the rug’s material and condition first, before picking an appropriate cleaning approach. This extra attention matters a lot especially if the rug has unusual fibers, any previous damage, fading, or other traits that call for additional care.
4. Antique & Heirloom Rugs
Antique and heirloom rugs often hold sentimental meaning, or even financial value, so gentle handling becomes essential not optional. Older materials can be more vulnerable to moisture, agitation, color shifting, or other damage that comes from improper treatment. In other words, it’s not just “cleaning” it’s careful care .
Before cleaning an older rug, professional assessment helps identify potential concerns. Bergmann’s Cleaning work with delicate textiles gives a practical approach, focused on getting it cleaned while still respecting the rug’s age and current condition.
Deep Rug Cleaning for Dirt, Stains and Odors
Vacuuming is kind of important for routine upkeep, but it can’t fully stand in for professional cleaning once the soil gets, you know deeply embedded, in the rug itself.
1. Removing Embedded Dirt and Everyday Buildup
Rug fibers can hold fine dirt, dust and debris that come in through everyday activity. Over time, this buildup can change both the look and the feel, like the texture can start acting different.
Professional rug cleaning pulls out accumulated soil more thoroughly than routine household maintenance can manage. This may leave heavily used rugs looking cleaner and feeling fresher, without leaning on harsh do-it-yourself treatments.
2. Stain and Odor Treatment
Food and drinks, pets, moisture and those everyday accidents can leave stains or weird odors lingering and the longer certain substances just stay in a rug, the more stubborn they may become when it’s time to treat them.
With professional treatment, the cleaning team actually looks at the stain, fiber, dye and the rug’s overall condition before getting started. Outcomes may differ based on how old the stain is and what kind of stain it is, so having honest expectations really matters.
A Careful Rug Cleaning Process from Inspection to Return
A good rug cleaning service should begin with understanding the rug rather than immediately applying a cleaning solution.
- Inspection and Fiber Assessment
Each rug is reviewed for its material, construction, visible stains, wear, and other conditions that may influence cleaning. This initial assessment helps determine what treatment is appropriate.
- Customized Cleaning and Soil Removal
After assessment, the cleaning process is selected according to the rug’s requirements. Bergmann’s Cleaning uses modern equipment and environmentally responsible products while focusing on appropriate handling for different textile types.
- Final Check Before Delivery
Once cleaning is complete, the rug receives a final review. This provides an opportunity to check its overall condition and ensure that the completed service meets the expected cleaning requirements before it is returned.

How Much Does Rug Cleaning Cost in Capitol Hill, DC?
Rug cleaning costs depend on several factors, so a single flat price would not accurately represent every work.
The final cost may depend on:
- Rug dimensions
- Fiber and construction
- Level of soiling
- Stain treatment required
- Rug condition
- Specialty or antique materials
- Pickup and delivery requirements
As a local market reference, one Capitol Hill rug specialist publicly lists cleaning at approximately $5.50 per square foot for rugs under 8×10 and $6.50 per square foot for rugs over 8×10. However, that pricing applies to that provider’s specific cleaning service and should not be presented as Bergmann’s pricing.
For an accurate Bergmann’s estimate, customers should request a quote based on their specific rug.
